Workout SNAPSHOT

Soma Club is a new addition to Russafa’s workout scene, offering Barre and Reformer Pilates classes in a minimalist yet cozy space. The Reformer room features six machines set against mirrored walls, creating an intimate setting that allows for personalized guidance.

The 50min Fit Reformer class moves at a steady pace with quick transitions between exercises, using props like weights, the Pilates ring, and a ball. Expect a balanced mix of core, lower-body, and upper-body work, with clear instructions on resistance levels and exercise modifications.

Reformer Pilates at Soma is low-impact yet highly effective, helping improve core strength, posture, and flexibility while being gentle on the joints. For a slower, more restorative session, Soma also offers a Classic Reformer class.

THE FULL SCOOP

Soma Club is the latest addition to Russafa’s workout scene, offering Barre and Pilates classes in a minimalist yet cozy space. You can leave your shoes at the entrance and head straight to the Reformer room which is the first one on the right. While most people arrive dressed for class, there’s also a changing room with lockers if needed. A small station with water, coffee, and tea is available to hydrate before or after class.

The reformer room has six machines set up against mirrored walls, giving it an intimate feel allowing for more personalized attention. Pick your spot and put on your grip socks if you have them. They’re optional but tend to help while working out on the machine.

The 50min Fit Reformer class moves at a steady pace with quick transitions between exercises, using props such as weights, the Pilates ring, or a ball. We started with core activation, then moved into lower-body work like lunges and skaters using the box on the reformer. To target the obliques, we added weighted side bends and “the mermaid,” which strengthens the waist, shoulders, and spine. The class wrapped up with arm and back exercises using straps, followed by a short stretch. Springs come in different resistance levels (yellow lighter, green heavier), and the instructor guides you on which to use while offering cues for both lighter and stronger options.

Reformer Pilates workouts are low-impact but highly effective: they help strengthen your core while improving posture, balance, and flexibility. The resistance of the springs helps target stabilizing muscles often overlooked in other workouts  while the low-impact nature of the movements makes it gentle on the joints. It’s ideal for anyone looking to build strength and mobility or train gently during recovery. Soma also offers a slower-paced Classic Reformer class if you prefer a gentler option.
