Workout SNAPSHOT

House of Barre is Lisbon’s first boutique studio dedicated entirely to barre, offering ballet-inspired strength training in an intimate space.

Barre workouts blend elements of ballet, Pilates, and yoga, using small, precise movements, isometric holds, and high repetitions to build endurance, improve posture, and tone muscles without straining the joints.

Classes run for 50min and combine barre sequences with mat-based exercises, often incorporating props like ankle weights, resistance bands, Pilates balls, and hand weights. Expect pulses, holds, and balance challenges that target the core, glutes, arms, and legs while keeping the heart rate engaged at a steady pace.

Formats range from the balanced full-body Barre Sculpt to Booty Barre, which emphasizes glute strength, with instructors ensuring clear cues and proper form throughout. After class, you can unwind on the couch or enjoy the outdoor terrace with a coffee or drink from the Honesty Bar.

THE FULL SCOOP

As the first boutique studio dedicated solely to Barre in Lisbon, House of Barre in Campolide brings ballet-inspired strength training into an intimate space. Barre workouts take inspiration from ballet, pilates, and yoga, combining small, precise movements with isometric holds and high repetitions. The result is a low-impact method that builds muscle endurance, improves posture and flexibility, and tones the body without putting strain on the joints.

The studio itself is small and cozy – when you step through the door, you’re basically already in the workout space. Along the mirrored wall, the ballet barre stretches across the room, serving as the anchor point for most of class. You can work out barefoot or in  grip socks. Props such as ankle weights, resistance bands, Pilates balls and hand weights are provided to add variety and intensity to the sequences.

Classes run for around 50min and focus on slow, controlled movements that keep muscles under tension and quickly activate stabilizers. Expect pulses, holds, and balance challenges that target your core, glutes, arms, and legs all at once. Classes usually alternate between barre-based sequences — such as pliés, leg lifts, and squat variations at the rail — and mat work using props. The pace is steady, keeping your heart rate engaged while maintaining focus on technique and alignment.

House of Barre also offers different formats: The signature Barre Sculpt class provides a balanced, full-body focus, while Booty Barre emphasizes glute strength and sculpting without neglecting the rest of the body. Whichever you choose, instructors clearly cue each movement and help with adjustments to ensure correct form. The combination of physical challenge and mindful engagement leaves muscles burning while improving posture and body awareness.

It’s a workout that leaves your muscles shaking, but because of its low-impact design, it’s accessible whether you’re cross-training, recovering from higher-impact workouts, or looking for a sustainable, strength-focused routine. After a short stretch, you can unwind on the couch or step outside to the inviting terrace with lounge chairs for a coffee or drink from the Honesty Bar.
