Workout SNAPSHOT

Amplify has launched a pop-up location for yoga and barre classes in Príncipe Real at Hotel Hotel at Avenida.

We joined their 50min California Barre class, which here runs in a “barre-less” format due to the temporary space — all movements are done on the mat using props like light weights, yoga blocks, a mini band, and a Pilates ball. Despite the lack of a barre, the workout stays true to the method, with pulses, holds, and small, controlled movements that build intensity quickly. Expect clamshells with resistance bands, pulsing squats, pliés, glute lifts, and leg extensions — all designed to challenge your legs, glutes, and thighs while engaging stabilizing muscles.

The steady pace keeps muscles under tension throughout, delivering a deceptively tough, low-impact burn. By the end, you’ll be sweaty, energized, and feeling the work long after class.

THE FULL SCOOP

Amplify has introduced a central pop-up location for yoga and barre in Príncipe Real, set inside Hotel Hotel. To find it, follow the signs toward the yoga room: walk past the bar, and head downstairs – it’s the first door on the left. We came to try the California Barre class.

Since this isn’t a dedicated Amplify studio, the setup is “barre-less,” meaning there’s no wall-mounted barre like in their Santos location. Instead, the workout takes place entirely on the mat with props such as light weights, yoga blocks, a mini band, and a Pilates ball.

Even without the barre, the 50min class will get you sweating. Many barre exercises translate perfectly to a mat format. The clamshell is a classic: while lying on your side with your knees bend and stacked up, you’ll keep on opening and closing them. The mini band just right above your knees adds the extra bit of resistance to make it even more challenging. It primarily targets the smaller glute muscles that often go unnoticed in traditional lower-body strength training, helping stabilize the pelvis, strengthen the hips, and build glute strength. Alongside this, expect pulsing squats, thigh-burning pliés, glute lifts, and leg extensions. At times, the wall is used as a substitute for barre support.

The class flows at a steady pace, combining small, controlled movements with isometric holds that keep your muscles under tension. These low-impact yet tough sequences are designed to tone, improve posture, and build strength, with the burn felt most through the legs, glutes, and thighs.

It’s worth noting that amenities at Avenida are limited compared to Amplify’s Santos or Marquês de Pombal studios. If you need a shower, the Marquês location is just a 15-minute walk away.

If you’re looking for a sweaty, effective barre class in central Lisbon, this pop-up is a solid choice.
